Are the islands the new hotspot for music talent?
The islands are starting to make waves. After Van Zee, straight out of Madeira, surprised everyone a few years ago with his unique lyrics and flows, a new island artist is now emerging - and already turning heads: Espama Trincana, from the Azores.
Van Zee quietly started gaining recognition but quickly became one of the most streamed artists in Portugal, proving that talent and originality know no boundaries. Espama Trincana is now following a similar path but with a completely different sound and aesthetic. Although he already has an impressive portfolio full of bangers, a recent TikTok hit “O Que Tu Quiseres :P” introduced many people to his music.
A common thread for both artists is that their rise was fueled by TikTok, showing how social media can amplify talent from outside the usual big-city hubs. Moreover, what was once considered a drawback – the accent – has now become a unique sauce that works in the artists’ favor, setting them apart and making them even more special.
Increasingly, it’s not just the big cities producing standout artists. Van Zee and Espama Trincana are proof that the islands are emerging as new hubs of musical creativity, showing that talent can come from anywhere.
