Did you know that Mourinho had a lucky coat valued at £22,000?
Yes, it’s true. When José Mourinho arrived at Chelsea in 2004-2005 season, he caused a sensation - and not only on the pitch. Unlike other managers, who usually wore just a suit and tie, the portuguese coach was often seen wearing a long coat over his suit.
It was none other than a Giorgio Armani Autumn/Winter 2000 cashmere coat, perfectly suited to the cold London weather. Fans suspected it was his lucky coat, but Mourinho denied it, saying he simply loved its design and composition.
The truth is that it was while wearing this coat that Chelsea achieved great results, helping the club win its first league title in 50 years. Later, in May 2005, the coat was auctioned for £22,000, with the proceeds going to tsunami victims and other charitable organizations.
Interestingly, after that event, Chelsea lost their next match. Perhaps it really was his lucky charm after all.
