Don't sleep on Madeira and the Azores.

For a long time, whenever people talked about talent and major achievements in Portugal, the conversation almost always revolved around Lisbon and Porto. It's understandable - they're the country's two biggest cities. Fortunately, that narrative has started to change, with more and more regions proving they have just as much to offer.

Not long ago, we highlighted Coimbra and everything happening there, from Vigilance to VSP AST and Andamento. Today, we're turning our attention to the islands.

The first major name to break through was undoubtedly Van Zee, who needs no introduction. But he's far from being the only success story.

Madeira is home to an impressive wave of talent. NAPA captured the country's attention by winning the Festival da Canção, reinforcing the island's reputation as a true creative hub. SFIL, best known for touring alongside Van Zee, has also been building a promising solo career of his own. Then there's Nort, the producer behind some of Van Zee's biggest records and a key figure in shaping his sound.

Madeira's creativity extends well beyond music. In fashion, YBC, founded by Harry Camacho, remains one of Portugal's most influential brands despite a period of inactivity. Alongside it, DHRT is another Madeira based brand that has been growing steadily and is quickly becoming a brand to watch within the national fashion landscape. Behind the scenes, Tomás Freitas has established himself as one of the country's most exciting emerging creatives, working across directing, writing, and creative direction. A regular collaborator of Van Zee, he has played an important role in shaping the visual identity and storytelling behind several projects.

The Azores are making just as much noise. Espama Trincana has been steadily gaining recognition across Portugal thanks to his distinctive sound and artistic identity. In fashion, Vidafodido has emerged as one of the islands' most promising brands, consistently delivering strong drops with a clear identity. Meanwhile, Goshii, a member of JunkieMoney, continues to establish himself as one of the standout names in Portugal's underground scene.

It's inspiring to see these regions, so often considered peripheral, finally receiving the recognition they deserve.
