Check the house where Kanye West stayed in the Alentejo.
During his short stay in Portugal, where he performed at the Algarve Stadium last friday, Kanye West stayed at Villa Além, in the Alentejo. Designed by swiss architect Valerio Olgiati, a longtime friend of the artist who has also worked on projects for Kanye, Villa Além is one of the most unique and distinctive houses in Portugal.
Built in 2014, the house sits within the Alentejo landscape, surrounded by cork oak trees. With a minimalist and brutalist aesthetic, the project is defined by its reddish concrete, geometric lines and enormous walls reaching 5.5 metres in height, creating the feeling of a fortress in the middle of the landscape.
The simplicity of the materials and the absence of unnecessary decorative elements are central to the house’s identity, creating a striking contrast between the architecture and the surrounding nature. Olgiati originally designed the house as a retreat for himself and his wife, with the spaces built around private outdoor areas that create a unique relationship between architecture and nature.
Kanye West isn’t the first major name from the music scene to visit. Travis Scott had previously visited Villa Além, adding another unexpected connection between this remote Alentejo project and some of the most influential names in contemporary culture.
