SMORRA are the new gems of Porto.
Porto is thriving like never before. Over the past few years, artists such as Joint One, Yung Juse and Tiago Mob have helped reshape the city's musical landscape. In a city historically associated with boom bap and more "conscious" rap, these artists paved the way for a new generation and new sounds, playing a pioneering role in the recent transformation of Porto's music scene.
Now, a new wave of artists is taking on the mission of carrying the city’s flag across the country - SMORRA, a collective made up of Isak, Zigarro, Armando Teles and Basílio Teles.
With aggressive, carefree and unapologetically "brega" lyrics - a term the group themselves embrace to describe their aesthetic - and a style of writing that avoids clichés, the collective has been attracting a growing audience and making its way onto playlists across Portugal. It's been a long time since the scene felt this fresh, and their achievement is made even more significant by the fact that they emerged outside the capital, challenging the long-standing centralization of the portuguese music industry. Porto is increasingly establishing itself as a true breeding ground for talent and creativity.
What started as a group of friends has evolved into a cult phenomenon on a national scale. Their rise has been rapid, yet grounded in a strong identity and a growing fanbase that connects with the group’s irreverence and authenticity.
In one of the most important moments of their still very young career, SMORRA now arrives at Casa Capitão for what promises to be another milestone in their ascent. After performing at “Queimas das Fitas” in their hometown, the collective is set to make its debut this friday at one of Lisbon's most freshest venues - a sold-out show that further confirms their growing pace.
