Why is nobody talking about the PUMA x Portugal x Salehe Bembury King collection?
For the upcoming World Cup, PUMA invited the famous designer Salehe Bembury to reinterpret the visual identity of several national teams - and Portugal was one of the selected countries. The result is a collection that goes far beyond traditional national team apparel: from lifestyle pieces to tracksuits and, above all, one of the most interesting goalkeeper kits in recent years.
The goalkeeper kit stands out through patterns inspired by the organic shapes of the Douro Valley, combined with abstract references to portuguese tiles and the country’s iconic mosaic pavements. The collection’s visual language aims to merge football, cultural heritage and contemporary design. Another standout piece is the tracksuit - dressed in navy tones and featuring a continuous pattern inspired by portuguese landscapes which is also seen in other pieces.
More than the beauty of each piece it is important to note that the portuguese national team is involved in this kind of creative collabs - something rare and almost unprecedented at this scale. We’re used to traditional kit launches, but not to seeing Portugal integrated into a collaboration led by a designer with a strong identity and cultural relevance in the scene. And despite not including the main match kits - with the exception of the goalkeeper one - this collection manages to place the national team in conversations that go beyond football, bringing it closer to design, fashion and lifestyle culture.
The PUMA x PORTUGAL x SALEHE BEMBURY KING collection is already available and some pieces have already sold out.
