The beggining of the portuguese streetwear scene.

The fashion and streetwear scene in Portugal is with more motion than ever. We are witnessing a new generation of young designers taking their first steps, alongside the constant emergence of new brands. But it wasn’t always like this.

There was a time when the scene was very different. With limited options and almost no representation, fashion carried a different kind of weight: it wasn’t just clothing, it was identity. The scene functioned almost like a cult - if you knew it, you belonged.

Back then, few had the desire - or the courage - to take risks. Brands appeared in very specific contexts, spread by word of mouth, and only showed up at certain locations or events. That exclusivity made them even more special.

Brands like One Step Forward, Scheme Studios, WAVV, Capital Garments, Nowhere Studios or Daisy Storm dressed our idols and represented who we aspired to be. Unfortunately, none of them survived. Not for lack of quality, but because, at the time, the market and audience weren’t ready for them.

Today, things are different. We are on the right path: more brands are emerging, and others are developing, ready to take the leap into new markets. It is now up to us to recognize this legacy, support and celebrate what is made here, and sustain the new movement that is taking shape.
